The young woman interviewed in the video speaks fluent English, indicating she is well-educated and more capable than Isayas. However, she is not in any high-ranking positions within the HIGDEF circles, and she may have been a victim and is no longer alive. Despite lacking leadership qualities, Isayas became a leader when no one else was thinking about leadership. It is evident that he was not a particularly smart young man at the time. In his interview, he mentioned, “There are some opportunistic and adventurous tendencies.” It would have been better if he had said it in Tigrigna instead of his broken English. It’s unfortunate that this man became the president of Eritrea and inflicted unimaginable horrors on Eritreans. This implies that the fighters with him initially were all incompetent; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had a chance to lead.

Isayas was an informed person when he joined the freedom struggle. Considering the war zone he lived in, with scarce facilities, food, and books, what could have made him well-informed? Additionally, he was busy devising strategies to eliminate those more capable and knowledgeable than himself. His unstable mind didn’t allow him time to read books. Consequently, he remains an ill-informed and arrogant dictator to this day.

In an interview on Er TV, Isayas once stated: “The knowledge of management is easy to learn if you have the desire.” He added, “Even without formal training, we managed the war and many other things at Nakfa. This doesn’t require any particular skills.” His lack of literacy and knowledge is evident as he openly talks about his ignorance. His management abilities reveal that he needs to learn much more than he believes he already knows. He must understand that effectively managing a country is far from easy.

The only knowledge he possesses is the use of ancestral words: “ንሃማሼናይ እንዳ መሃልካ፣ ንዶርሆ ጥረ እንደሃብካ ትብል ምስላ ጽቡቅ ጌሩ እጽኒኡዋስ፣ አጸቢቁ ይጥቀመላ አሎ።”
