She explained that these adornments are meant to attract tourists, with whom they take pictures for a fee. This is their way of managing their livelihoods, though it is a challenging way to live. One wonders how long the Omo people will continue this lifestyle.

Like any community, the Omo people need support to enhance their living standards. It is time for the Ethiopian government to pay attention to their needs. Why have they been neglected? Is it impossible to assist them in making changes, or does the government view them merely as a source of foreign income, similar to the Semen Mountain Chilada baboon and the Walia ibex? Historically, both past and present governments have treated this region differently from other parts of the country, often overlooking its potential. As the saying goes, no society can be helped if it cannot help itself. Yet, without drastic measures like armed secession, these communities often remain overlooked.

However, balanced development across all regions is crucial for national progress. The development of Addis Ababa alone does not significantly impact the overall lives of citizens or the country’s economic strength. Therefore, it is vital to propose that the government expands its economic activities into the southern regions to foster growth and improve the lives of local communities.

Enhancing the region’s economy and considering the development of southern cities like Jinka or Kibremengist could prove transformative. Establishing public service centers or other facilities in these cities could mirror the role cities like Marseille and Toulouse play in France, or Cape Town and Durban in South Africa. For instance, relocating the country’s highest court to Jinka could catalyze significant local development. Such moves would attract people to these areas, boosting economic activities and regional development. Similarly, relocating major public utilities to these remote areas would further stimulate local economies, empowering communities such as the Hamer, Konso, and Murti to thrive and become self-sufficient.

As citizens, we cannot remain passive while the Omo people endure hardship. How can the government permit its citizens to live almost like refugees within their own country for centuries? The intervention of international and humanitarian organizations might be necessary to meet the basic needs of the Omo Valley inhabitants and improve their quality of life. It is disheartening to witness human beings reduced to tourist attractions. The government should either assist these communities more effectively or allow them the autonomy to manage their affairs independently, ensuring their freedom and dignity.

የሀገሪቱን ኢኮኖሚ ወደ ደቡብ ማስፋት እና በክልሉ እድገትን ማመቻቸት የክልሉን ህዝቦች ያግዛል። እንደ ጂንካ ወይም ክብረመንግስት ያሉ የሩቅ ደቡብ ከተሞችን ግምት ውስጥ ማስገባት እና ማልማት፣ እንዲሁም የህዝብ አገልግሎት መስጫ ማእከል መገንባት፣ አካባቢውን ለማልማት ይረዳል። ማርሴይ እና ቱሉዝ ለፈረንሳይ፣ ወይም ኬፕ ታውን እና ደርባን ለደቡብ አፍሪካ እንደሆኑት ማለት ነው። የሲቪል ሰርቪስ ውሳኔ ሰጪ ቢሮዎች ለምሳሌ የሀገሪቱ ከፍተኛ ፍርድ ቤት ወደ ጂንካ ሊዛወር ይችል። እነዚህ ተቋማት ወደ አካባቢው ሲሄዱ ሰዎችም ከሌላ ክልሎች በጉዳያቸው ወደ አካባቢው ስለሚንቀሳቀሱ ፣ በክልሉ ውስጥ የኢኮኖሚ እንቅስቃሴን ለማስፋፋት ይረዳል። በተመሳሳይ ሌሎች ዋና ዋና የህዝብ መገልገያ ማዕከላት ወደ እነዚህ ሩቅ አካባቢዎች ማዛወር፣ የክልሉን ኢኮኖሚያዊ እንቅስቃሴዎች ለማሳደግ ይረዳል ። በምላሹም የሐመር፣ የኮንሶ እና የሙርቲ ህዝቦች የማደግና የድጋፍ እድል ያገኛሉ።

እንደ ዜጋ የኦሞ ህዝብ ስቃይ በዚህ መልኩ ሲቀጥል ዝም ብሎ ማየት ጊዜው አልፎበታል። መንግሥት ዜጎቹ በገዛ አገራቸው ለዘመናት በስደት እንዲኖሩ እንዴት ይፈቅዳል? የኦሞ ሸለቆ ህዝብ መሰረታዊ ፍላጎቶቻቸውን እንዲያገኙ እና ኑሯቸውን እንዲያሻሽሉ ለመርዳት የአለም አቀፍ ድርጅቶች እና የሰብአዊ ድርጅቶች ጣልቃ ገብነት ሊያስፈልግ ይችላል። የሰው ልጅ እንደእንሳ እየተቆጠረ፣ ሲኖር ማየት ደስታን እይሰጥም። መንግስት እነዚህን ሰዎች ማገዝ ወይ ደሞ እራሳቸውን እንዲያስተዳድሩ የመፍቀድ ግዴታ ሊኖርበት ይገባል።

የኦሞ ህዝብ የቱሪስት መስህቦችን ለማሸነፍ እና ክፍያ ለማግኘት በጭንቅላታቸው ላይ ቀንድ በመትከል ብዙ አይነት እንግዳ ነገሮችን በመፍጠር ሰውነታቸውን ያበላሻሉ፣ በዚህም ገንዘብ ያገኛሉ። ይህንን የማውቀው ቱሪስቶቹ ከጠየቁት ጥያቄ ነው። ቱሪስቱ የሙርሲ ሴት ለምን ያንን ሁሉ እንግዳ ነገር ፊቷ ላይ ወይም ሰውነቷ ላይ እንዳስቀመጠች ጠይቋት፣ የሙርሲዋ ሴት ስትመልስ፣ ይህን የሚያደርጉት ፣ ቱሪስቶችን ለመሳብ እና አብረዋቸው ፎቶ ለመነሳትና ክፍያ ለማግኘት ነው ስትል ተናግራለች። ሕይወታቸውን የሚያቆዩት በዚህ መንገድ ነው። እና በዚህ መንገድ መኖር በጣም ከባድ ነው። የኦሞ ህዝብ እስከመቼ እንደዚህ ይኖራል?

እርግጥ ነው፣ ህይወታቸውን ለማሻሻል እርዳታ እንደሚያስፈልጋቸው ሰዎች ሁሉ እነሱም እርዳታ ያስፈልጋቸዋል። የኢትዮጵያ መንግስት ስለእነዚህ ሰዎች የሚያስብበት ጊዜ አሁን ነው። ለምን እነዚህን ህብረተሰቦች መርሳት አስፈለገ? እንዲለወጡ መርዳት አይቻልም? ወይንስ እንደ ሰሜን ተራራ ጭላዳ ዝንጀሮና እንደ ዋሊያ እይቤክስ ለሀገር የውጭ ምንዛሪ ምንጭ አድርገው ቆጥረውዋቸው ይሆን? ለነገሩ የድሮውም ሆነ የአሁኑ የመንግስት ስርዓቶች ይህንን ክልል ከሌሎች የሀገሪቱ ክልሎች በተለየ መልኩ ያዩታል። እንደሚሉት ፣ ራሱን መርዳት የማይችልን ማህበረሰብ ፣ ማንም ሊረዳው አይችልም። ነፍጥ አንስተው እንገንጠል እስካላሉ ድረስ፣ የስህበት ማዕከል ሊሆኑ አይችሉም ማለት ነው።

ይሁን እንጂ የትኛውም አገር የሚለማው ነዋሪዎቿ ሁሉ ሚዛናዊ በሆነ መንገድ ሲያድጉ ነው። የአዲስ አበባ ልማት በዜጎች ሕይወትም ሆነ በሀገሪቱ ኢኮኖሚያዊ ጥንካሬ ላይ ምንም ለውጥ አያመጣም። ስለሆነም መንግስት እነዚህን ህዝቦች ለመለወጥ እና ለማልማት በክልሉ የሚያደርገውን የኢኮኖሚ እንቅስቃሴ እንዲያሰፋ ሃሳብ ማቅረብ ያስፈልጋል።
