እቲ ዝኸፍአ ድማ ኤርትራ ንዕዳጋ ሩስያ እተቕርቦ ነገር የብላን፡ ኤርትራ ትሸጦ ፍርያት ሕርሻ የብላን፣ ካልእ ንሩስያ ዘድልያ ኣብ ኤርትራ ዝስራሕ የለን። ካልእ እንታይ እሞ ክብል?

Contrastingly, President Isaias of Eritrea ventured into matters beyond his remit, addressing issues irrelevant to his nation’s immediate needs. Instead of focusing on pragmatic goals, he engaged in a discourse more befitting a political activist, explaining global politics to President Putin as if the latter were unaware of the dynamics of the Western world. Bizarrely, he relied on information gleaned from casual sources like Facebook and snippets from conversations with Yemane Manki, his advisor, during breaks.

Isaias claimed his global focus was driven by a desire to improve conditions worldwide. Yet, this seems incongruous with the reality in Eritrea, a nation grappling with severe human rights violations, where countless citizens are either fleeing or facing dire oppression. This disconnect suggests a profound lack of self-awareness or an understanding of his country’s plight. One might recall the saying, “A hyena went to another country and asked for a sheepskin to sleep on,” highlighting Isaias’s misplaced priorities and apparent detachment from reality.

Moreover, Eritrea has little to offer the Russian market; it lacks the agricultural outputs or other products Russia might need. Given these circumstances, Isaias’s speech at the summit did little to promote his nation’s interests or address its numerous challenges. What else, indeed, could he contribute under these conditions?

Isaias, showing his age, repetitively asserts, “This war is not just between Ukraine and Russia; it is a war declared by NATO on Russia.” One should tally how many times he repeats this mantra. Imagine if Putin were to question him about the mass exodus of Eritrea’s qualified professionals, or ask why Isaias seeks assistance in training more students when he has failed to utilize the ones already trained. How would he respond?

Isaias’s rhetoric on ERTV portrays a hopeful vision, yet his actions tell a starkly different story. He seems to believe he is the sole possessor of wisdom, oblivious to the fact that others see through his facade and can raise probing questions. His approach is akin to a kindergarten student attempting to lecture a university professor, an absurd mismatch of roles that highlights his disconnect from reality.

One could argue that Isaias has led a wasted life. He entered the battlefield to oppose what he perceived as the brutality of the Haile Selassie regime towards Eritreans. Yet, after three decades of guerrilla warfare, he has inflicted equal, if not greater, brutality upon his people. He has failed to uphold his commitments and ideologies, proving himself untrustworthy and devoid of values.
